Inspiring the Next Generation of Builders and Innovators at ENGage LSU 2025
We had the incredible opportunity to participate in the 8th annual ENGage LSU outreach event, hosted by the LSU College of Engineering. This initiative brought together over 200 middle school students—primarily from underrepresented groups in STEM—for a day of hands-on learning and exploration in engineering, computer science, and construction management. Our session, titled "Building the Future: A Hands-On Exploration of Construction & Technology," offered students an immersive glimpse into the innovations shaping the future of the built environment. Throughout the morning, I welcomed five rotating groups of eager students into the SPICE Lab, where they:
Witnessed construction robots in action and learned how robotics and automation are transforming the way we build.
Stepped into the world of virtual reality, experiencing how immersive technologies are used to plan and manage construction projects.
Participated in an interactive construction sequencing activity using hands-on building toys, giving them a chance to apply concepts of project planning and teamwork.
The energy and curiosity from these young minds were truly inspiring! Events like ENGage LSU play a critical role in opening doors for students who might not otherwise envision themselves in engineering or construction careers. By showcasing the cutting-edge tools and technologies that are revolutionizing the field, we hope to ignite a lasting interest in STEM pathways.
A special thanks to the LSU College of Engineering, the Society of Peer Mentors, and all the faculty, staff, and students who helped make this event a success. I’m proud to contribute to shaping the future generation of innovators and builders.
