Leveraging Machine Learning to Address Energy Burden
In the summer of 2023, I had the privilege of mentoring Cesar Rico, a dedicated student from Catholic High of Baton Rouge, through LSU's High School Summer Research (HSSR) Program.
Cesar's research focused on: "A Machine-Learning Approach to Analyze Energy Burden in U.S. Low-Income Households"
His project aimed to explore how machine learning techniques can be applied to analyze and understand the energy burden faced by low-income households across the United States. By leveraging data-driven methods, Cesar sought to identify patterns and factors contributing to energy inefficiency and high energy costs in these communities.
Throughout the program, Cesar demonstrated a strong commitment to learning and applying complex concepts, culminating in a comprehensive presentation of his findings on August 12, 2023.
Mentoring students like Cesar reinforces the importance of hands-on research experiences in shaping the future of engineering and data science. I'm proud to have been part of his academic journey and look forward to seeing his future contributions to the field.
