We are excited to share that our paper, “Human-Robot Interaction for Building Occupant Engagement: The Use of Social Robots in Thermal Comfort Surveys,” authored by Mina Nesarshamsabad and Amir Jafari, was presented at the International Conference on Computing in Civil Engineering (i3CE 2026) in Songdo, Incheon, South Korea.

Organized by ASCE, i3CE is a leading conference focused on the role of computing technologies in civil and construction engineering, including artificial intelligence, automation and robotics, digital twins, BIM, visualization, and human-centered innovation. The 2026 conference was especially significant as the first i3CE held outside the United States.

The paper presents our ongoing work on using social robots to support occupant engagement and thermal comfort feedback in smart building environments. Using the Temi V3 robot, the study explored how different robot interaction modes influence occupant participation in thermal comfort surveys.

In addition to presenting the paper, Dr. Jafari served as a Technical Committee member and Session Chair at the conference.
